Can not replacing the filter/screen in a 1994 T- Bird make it not go into drive. goes into reverse fine?
My car will only go into reverse, Had front and rear seals replaced and they were supposed to change the filter/screen but told me that I didn’t need it. It drove fine now it will only go into reverse. It sounds like it’s spinning when you put it in drive but will eventual go?
Every reputable work shop has a warranty on their work.
Take it back and give them the story you show us. They will do further investigation and determine exactly why it is behaving. Transmission filters MUST be changed at certain intervals. Check your owners manual and find out what the intervals are for your T-Bird.
I say they purposely did not change the filter to create the current problem which they will claim had nothing to do with the first one. That’s the same thing when a doctors tells you “take 2 aspirins and come back in 1 week”. Money generation tactics which are mostly unethical if not fraudulent.
How long you been using this mechanic? Maybe time for a change. Also, report such to the Better Business Bureau. Only consumers can police “bad mechanics”. The police or government can not.
Good luck. When that happened to me (1965 Chevy Nova), I got a lawyer and we proved they had not done the job properly to begin with which later caused my transmission to need expensive repairs. I got a new transmission out of the suit plus reimbursement for all expenses paid previously to include lawyer and court costs. Perhaps that lesson will make them more ethical.
