how do you make light bulbs in a christmas light blink in an AC circuit?
what would be the materials needed to make the lights blink without having to use a PCB since it is an AC circuit, meaning, the whole circuit is directly plugged to the power supply (not using battery as power supply).
thanks to all who answered. i forgot to mention that i’ll be using mini lights without having to use blinker lights. is there any other way i can make them blink?? where does the blinking depend provided that it is made on an AC circuit? (on the resistors? IC?? etc…)
by the way, i’ll be using a 220 volt power supply. i’ll be making this blinking christmas light as a project in our class and have to use at least 25 bulbs (not the LED ones). Thank you very much for all your answers. They help a lot. I’ll be waiting for more answers. =)
A FLUORESCENT LAMP STARTER!
I know it sounds a little odd but if you wire a fluorescent lamp starter in series with the string of bulbs they will blink on and off randomly. Just look in a local hardware shop for them or if you can’t find them, ask. You have to use something like a screw driver to lever the pins from the base to remove the components and then just solder each end of the thing that looks like a mini bulb in series with the lamps, you may want to then fit this into some small plastic box because if you touch the wires you WILL get an electric shock! 
The starter will only last for about 3 or 4 weeks of non stop blinking but that should do if it’s just for this christmas!
